Pic of Jenni McGuire

I’ve been doing mosaics since 1998, when I was directing a therapeutic garden program for incarcerated teens. We experimented with garden mosaics – stepping stones and birdbaths- and found smashing tiles enormously satisfying. Since there were no mosaic schools in the US, and I wasn’t able to travel to Italy at that time, I began extensive research and experimenting on my own.

Somehow, a world I’d always sought, sculpture with colour and texture, was in my hands with endless possibilities. I’m grateful for the colours and being able to give new life to materials that would otherwise be waste. I enjoy the challenge of unfolding forms as I perceive them, experimenting and uncovering new processes.
